Sioux Falls Police to host citizens academy

February 1, 2017

Sioux Falls residents have the chance to get a closer look at how emergency services work in their community with the citizens’ academy.

The Public Safety Citizens’ Academy gives insight to how Sioux Falls Police Department, Metro Communications, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and Paramedics Plus perform individually and how they work together.

Classes will be held Thursdays from 6 to 9:30 p.m. from March 9 to May 11, at the Law Enforcement Center, 320 W. 4th St.

Students will learn about patrol and crime scene procedures, K-9 operations, and an overview of Paramedics Plus and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue.

Participants will also get to see how Metro Communications works with the other emergency services and go on a ride along with a patrol officer.

Class sizes are limited and you have to be at least 18 years old.

Applications are due Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Applications can be found at the police department’s main page on the city’s website.
